Reading Aloud to your Kids Never Gets Old

Reading stories out aloud to kids must have been in fashion since the day man started reading and writing. We all love to read, or most of us do. Whatever the case, reading aloud has the perks of not only keeping you in the beneficial habit of reading, but also helps build a lot of positive aspects for your children. For instance, you would not drone throughout the story in the same monotonous tone and expression, would you? When it is a story, you are compelled to read in the expression the author intended his or her readers to read in. You would give pauses at commas and full stops; you would gasp when there is a dialogue of horror; you would raise your voice when someone shouts in the story; and you would whisper when someone whispers in the story. In other words, you would experience the entire story side by side with your children.

Now that certainly holds the element of interest for you. But what does it have in store for your children? Reading aloud has been proven to boost comprehension and listening capabilities of children. It promotes discussion about the story between the children and their parents. You tell your opinions and they tell their opinions and slowly, children realize that there can be more than one aspect in every story. It helps them look at the plot from different directions and raise questions about the characters.

Reading aloud also improves the attention. Some children are too absorbed in themselves and the present technology to read good books. Read aloud to them and you will find that they become more and more interested in books and become attentive to other things as well.

There is the additional perk of improvement of expression and vocabulary. When you pause or give expression, your children learn about the art of speaking and writing. They learn about the new words of literature. They learn about the different styles of writing and the versatile expressions in the literature. The children also see an example of what good reading should sound like. For example, ‘“Hey!” she said angrily’ will be read very differently from ‘“Don’t cry,” he whispered’. The first one would be read in a louder tone and with anger in the voice. The second one would be read very gently.Online HomeSchooling for Christian Students

Reading aloud also improves the way your child speaks. As mentioned before, it improves the expression of the child. This is to say that the expression is improved not only in writing but also in speaking in everyday life. It would shape up the tone of your child.

You can read aloud anything. Stories, magazines or newspapers, all are good enough to create interest and to pose the above mentioned benefits. Reading is something we all like to do. Why not, as a parent, involve our kids in our interests and help them build up their inquisitive and creative side in this world of technology?

Parenting is not a Bed of Roses

Parenting, as portrayed to be is not a sweet and lovely journey. As a parent, failure will be part of the course and this is not simply a negative declaration. With time and situations, the inner conflicts of family journey will be publicized.

Of late, I have been witnessing several parenting hurdles. There are many I meet who are examples of disastrous parenting while there are kids who are victims to bad parenting. In case you are perplexed and surprised by it, just take a stroll around your neighborhood and you will observe more parenting failures than you can ever imagine.

This has highly concerned me since most cases are situated in incredibly loving, Christ-centered households. It didn’t seem like they were results of earlier sins or negative behavior, yet such disappointments just happened.

As Christians, these issues are quite challenging because we always hunt for the cause of the issue so that we can justify our flaws. By looking at everything unnecessary we end up worsening the dispute than dealing with it appropriately. The situation becomes problematic in spite of our deep longing and effort to “help”.Homeschool Kid

I have witnessed amazing Christian leaders who are dedicated and love Jesus wholeheartedly yet there have been catastrophes that ruin their family either in their marriage or with their children. This always leads us to examine and find out what went wrong? We are perplexed and we lose respect for the person as we keep pondering over what went behind the problem.

WAKE UP and CHANGE!

At one point we need to meet reality and admit the fact that life has never assured a smooth and blissful drive. Many amazing people have experienced the pain of broken marriages. Some dedicated parents have witnessed their children walk away to darkness and into the clutches of immorality and agony. In addition to the suffering that they go through they also end up being the victim of a disapproving community who determines that not all was well thus far.

These problems might not have crept into your family and so count your blessings but don’t succumb to the usual God + Marriage + Family formula. As you love and pursue God you will live as a witness to your family in your day to day spiritual life. Be realistic and honest with your spouse and children, if not you fool yourself. Apart from all that is necessary, trust God completely with your family. Praise God when they win and continue to praise him when they stumble and fall. The fall may be one portion of the larger plan of God for your family. As you see another family fall, just realize that they are on the journey and they are in the middle of a great story of God’s amazing Grace and redemption. Let go of the desire to know what is happening in their life and give them the space to learn and experience God’s goodness through all the struggles.

5 Fabulous Ways to Help Your Child Succeed

As a homeschooling mom, it’s easy to get so focused on the process we forget to realize that our children need a boost from us every now and then to help them succeed. Just like us, they can struggle with a lack of motivation and even burn out from time to time. Sometimes, we need to give them that extra incentive to keep going. Read on for five fabulous ways to help your homeschooler succeed.

1) Be a Cheerleader
The Bible says that we are to encourage one another and build each other up. So often, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture among the daily grind. As homeschooling moms, one of the most important things you can do is encourage your child. The curriculum is only part of the lesson, your attitude and how well you encourage your child can make or break the homeschooling experience. Out children crave our attention and approval, and sadly, if we don’t give it to them, they will seek it elsewhere, often with disastrous results.

2) Reward Efforts
Every child is an individual and has individual needs emotionally. Some children respond well to a hug and a sincere compliment; other kids need tangible rewards. A tangible reward can be something as simple as an extra half hour on the computer or an ice cream with mom or dad. Often a reward of one on one time with a parent is a great way to tie heart strings and reward your child for a job well done. Study your child, and learn to communicate your approval and encouragement in a way that speaks directly to them.

3) Take Learning Beyond the Books
Lifelong learning extends way beyond books. Look for creative ways for your child to learn. Hit up a museum, or art exhibit. Explore the nature trails at a state park. Go to a concert. Volunteer  at a nursing home or soup kitchen to teach compassion  and move your family out of your comfort zone. Philip Pullman said, “True education flowers at the point when delight falls in line with responsibility.” Step outside the box and ignite your child’s passion for true learning.

4) Let Them Make Mistakes
Mistakes are a part of life. We need to prepare our children for success, and part of that is preparing them for life’s little mistakes that inevitably come. How a child handles failure speaks volumes about his or her character. We need to encourage our children to keep trying until they find a solution to their problems. Tenacity is a skill many young adults lack in our society and teaching our children to persevere gives them an edge in life and the workplace.

5) Pray
Last but definitely not least, pray with and for your children. As parents, our task is one of such great importance that we will fail without the Lord’s help. So many times I am at a loss as to how to deal with a discipline issue or an educational issue. I find that when I lay my heart before my Heavenly Father, the solutions become obvious. Homeschooling is a sacred calling, and one that is next to impossible without the wisdom and peace that comes from time spent in prayer.

Benefits of Online Homeschooling

The concept of online homeschooling is really catching on and people around the world now understand its benefits. Online homeschooling enables students to access learning materials from virtually anywhere around the world at any time. It goes without saying that online homeschooling offers a more flexible alternative to traditional learning where students have to spend hours in a classroom.

Advantages of Online Homeschooling

Online homeschooling comes with lots of advantages to those interested in additional training and furthering their studies. For example, if a company wants to provide training to its employees on a particular system or protocol, online homeschooling can provide a good virtual learning platform for everyone no matter their geographical location.

The flexibility of homeschooling allows students to use the same learning materials in their own time frame at their own pace. Online homeschooling can save companies   money when it comes to training its employees because there are no travel expenses.

Most people have access to the internet, which makes homeschooling increasingly popular as an alternative to traditional learning. It allows students to make a learning schedule that is convenient to them and also permits teachers to focus on their curriculum in a new and more exciting way. Here are additional advantages of online homeschooling and Christian homeschool curriculum:

•    Access to a better learning environment and tools

Institutions of higher learning are fewer in rural areas and it is difficult for students to find specialized teachers. Online home schooling allows instructors and students to connect with the help of online tools like Knowledge Base Software, Learning Management System and more. It simply gives students an easy access to learning and specialists.

•    Encourages students to further their studies

Online homeschooling is more effective that traditional classroom learning. It’s more fun and gives students an overall engaging user experience which improves retention. This way, students become more interested in completed their studies and enrolling for new programs to further their studies.

•    It’s convenient

It’s challenging for both teachers and students to find time to attend classes. The fact that everyone is very busy with their schedule, it can be difficult  for everyone to be at the same place at the same time. However, with online homeschooling, students can attend classes and training sessions from virtually anywhere around the globe.

•    Offers better evaluation methods

The different evaluation methods used in online homeschooling makes it easier to provide quick feedback and results.  Systems used rely mainly on quizzes and other additional tools that provide instant feedback, letting the learners know how they are doing in their studies and how they can improve their grades.

•    Affordability of learning materials

For many years, learning materials have been very costly and almost unaffordable to many students. To make it even worse, learning materials like text books have to be updated as new information comes up. With online homeschooling, materials are acquired online making it affordable on the part of the student. It is also easier to update online course material, making it more current than that found in text books.

•    Introduces students to the global marketplace

The internet has made the world a small place and technology has completely changed the way people interact and communicate. Students engaged in online homeschooling can interact with those from other places around the world and learn more about the technology which will be of great importance changing our working environment in the future.

Although online homeschooling is still a new alternative model of learning, students engaged in it have shown great potential and its advantages over the traditional classroom learning are very evident.
